1-3. 종로구> 경운동(Gyeongun-dong)

안국역에서 낙원상가 방향으로 가는 삼일대로 큰길 쪽으로 인사동 뒷길부터 이어져 있다.

경운동의 동명은 1914년 4월 1일 동명 개정때 경행방(慶幸坊)의 '경'자와 부근에 있는 운현궁(雲峴宮)의 '운'자를 따서 제정되었다. 경운동에는 몇개의 자연부락이 있다. 석정동(石井洞)은 운현궁 남쪽에 있던 마을로서 돌로 된 우물이 있어 돌우물골이라 하였다. 석정동은 이를 한자명으로 옮겨 부른 것이다. 교동(校洞)은 향교동(鄕校洞), 향곳골이라고도 했는데 교동은 경운동·낙원동·종로2가~종로3가에 걸쳐 있는 마을이다. 한양의 향교가 있어 동명이 유래되었으며 향교동이라 불렀는데 줄여서 교동이 되었다.
경운동은 동쪽으로 운니동과 익선동이, 남쪽으로 낙원동이 있고, 서쪽으로는 관훈동이 있으며 율곡로를 경계로 북쪽에 안국동·재동이 있다.

경운동을 통과하는 율곡로는 동십자각에서부터 이화동 사거리를 거쳐 동대문에 이르는 가로명으로 폭 30m, 총연장 3,000m로 조선시대 때 경복궁과 창덕궁을 잇는 길이었다.

It runs from the back road of Insa-dong toward the main road of Samil-aero, which goes from Anguk Station to Nakwon Shopping Center.

The name of Gyeongun-ong was established on April 1, 1914, when the name was revised, based on the letter 'Gyeong' of Gyeonghaengbang (慶幸坊) and the letter 'Un' of Unhyeongung (雲峴宮) located nearby. There are several natural villages in Gyeongun-dong. Seokjeong-dong (石井洞) is a village south of Unhyeongung Palace and has a stone well, so it is called Dolwellmulgol. Seokjeong-dong is a Chinese character name for this name. Gyo-dong (校洞) was also called Hyanggyo-dong (鄕校洞) or Hyanggotgol. Gyo-dong is a village spanning Gyeongun-dong, Nakwon-dong, Jongno 2-ga and Jongno 3-ga. The name originated from the presence of Hyanggyo in Hanyang, and it was called Hyanggyo-dong, which was shortened to Gyo-dong.
Gyeongun-dong has Unni-dong and Ikseon-dong to the east, Nakwon-dong to the south, Gwanhun-ong to the west, and Anguk-dong and Jaedong to the north, bordered by Yulgok-ro.

 

 

Yulgok-ro, which passes through Gyeongun-dong, runs from Dongsipjagak to Ihwa-ong intersection to Dongdaemun. It is 30m wide and 3,000m long, and was the road connecting Gyeongbokgung Palace and Changdeokgung Palace during the Joseon Dynasty.
